Lumbini

Lumbini is a Buddhist pilgrimage site also home to the historic birthplace of Buddha. Many a times referred as 'THE LIGHT OF ASIA'. Buddha was the founder of Buddhism faith. His period was estimated to be approximately before 500 BC. Lumbini is located 25 kilometers east of the municipality of  Kapilbastu ,5  hours’ drive from Kathmandu and 30 min drive from Bhairahawa. This is one of the pilgrimage site based around the life of Gautam Buddha. 'MayaDevi temple' is favorite point of attraction which is believed to be the exact birth place of Gautam Buddha. The present MayaDevi temple has been built at the place where Queen MayaDevi gave birth to Lord Buddha. Then there is ' Pushkarini' pond where Queen Maya took bath before giving birth to Gautam Buddha. It is believed that in late18's the Indo British archaeology team discovered a grindstone pillar at the site, later it was named as 'Asoka  Pillar'  From  morning to evening number of tourists and pilgrims from various p lace perform chanting and meditation in this sites. This holy site is bordered by a large monastic zone where no shops and restaurants are found
